Our main camp is located in GMU 55 just outside the town of Gunnison and where most of our hunts are operated. We have a few different options available for our hunts and something for every type of hunter. Some of our hunts are customizable so contact us and see what we can do for you!
Drop Camp Hunts
A drop camp hunt is good option for those that don’t want a guide to show them around, but want the convenience of having a camp already set up in an area where there is game close by. These hunts include a horseback ride 3-8 miles into the wilderness to a wall tent set up with a wood burning stove, cots, pads, and all the cooking equipment needed. All packing out is included as well, your gear and your game. This is an option for those who have backcountry hunting experience and are comfortable spending a week by themselves in the wilderness, there are no horses left in camp.
Fully Guided Base Camp Hunts
A guided hunt is a great option for a first time western hunter, or a hunter that can’t navigate around the mountains comfortably. These hunts include a guide to take you into the wilderness on horseback, a fully equipped base camp, and warm meals everyday. This is a hunt where you bring your clothes, pack, and weapon and that’s all you need we provide the rest. We take you to areas everyday where you will be in the best possible location to fill your tag. Once an animal is down your guide will quarter and pack your animal off the mountain with our pack horses.
Primitive Backcountry Guided Hunts
This is a new option for Gunnison Country Outfitters. A very unique hunt and a fantastic experience that very few people will be able to experience. This is a very strenuous hunt and only recommended to those who are in top physical condition as there will be many miles put on foot in rugged terrain. This hunt will be unique because we will not be based out of a base camp with wall tents and cots, it will be a very primitive camp off trail and very remote. Camp will consist of small backpacking tents and sleeping bags on the ground. The purpose of keeping everything light is we might be changing locations daily chasing bulls or bucks around the high country. These hunts are a favorite way for us to personally hunt so we figured we could start offering this opportunity to our clients. With this hunt we may hike in from the trailhead or we may have a wrangler haul us and gear up the mountain a ways on horseback where we will unload and start our hunt. This hunt is going to be very limited and only available for the archery, muzzleloader, and first rifle seasons. Call to inquire about availability and what to expect out of this hunt.
